Low dose Aspirin Stops Cancer

Low dose Aspirin Stops Cancer

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | health blog

In search of revolutionary ways to fight off cancer, we stumble onto an affordable medicine, in the form of aspirin, that can ward off this dreaded disease.

Aspirin is a cheap medicine commonly use for headache, fever, as well as for the prevention of heart attack and stroke, that has been shown by studies to possess a remarkable ability to significantly reduce the development of colorectal cancer.

Study shows that long term use of baby aspirin for roughly 3-5 years can substantially lower a person's risk of colorectal cancer. Low dose aspirin or baby aspirin is 100mg or less.

Colorectal cancer is a malignant tumor of the large intestine and rectum that afflicts hundreds of thousands each year commonly seen among individuals ages 50 and above. This discovery is beneficial especially among high risk groups including people with family history of colon cancer, presence of colon polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, chrohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, physically inactivity, and cigarette smoking.

In addition, aspirin had a remarkable ability to reduce the  spread of cancer to other parts of the body (metastasis). This is beneficial among those already diagnosed with cancer as spread of tumor cells to various parts of the body is a hindrance to successful treatment.

Currently, colonoscopy is the primary screening test to detect and remove benign and precancerous colorectal polyps that can potentially become cancerous if otherwise left.

Although, it is worth noting that aspirin is not a drug that's suited for everyone. People with clotting problems, taking blood thinners, have gastrointestinal upset or have allergy to this drug may not be suitable candidate for aspirin therapy. It is imperative to consult with your health care provider before taking aspirin.

Why do non-smokers have lung cancer? Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | health blog

Tobacco smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer so the emergence of this dreaded disease among non-smokers baffles and surprises many. Try turning the table around and ask why not all smokers develop lung cancer.

First and foremost, although smoking tobacco is the major risk factor for the development of lung cancer, it is not the sole culprit. Circumstances like gene mutation, exposure to second hand smoke, air pollution, radon gas, asbestos, and radiation can also be the reason for the development of lung cancer.

The presence of a family history of lung cancer puts a person at an increased risk of developing this disease. Likewise, environmental factors like inhalation of chemical irritants can have serious implications.

Another culprit shown by research that can greatly contribute to lung cancer formation is the presence of major stressful life events such as divorce. Moreover, particularly startling is the discovery that when these stressful events does show to significantly contribute to lung cancer, their effect manifest in just several months to a few years whilst those attributed to smoking takes decades to develop.

Particularly alarming about lung cancer is it isn't usually apparent during it's early stage as it doesn't manifest signs and symtoms. By the time that symptoms like persistenct cough, breathing difficulty and chest pain does manifest, lung cancer has already advanced to end stage Stage IV in which cancer cells have metastazised to nearby organs such as the liver and brain. Thus, the survival rate for this type of cancer is low.

The possibility that a non-smoker will be diagnosed with lung cancer is by no means a way to put smoking at a better light. Take note that about 80% of individuals who have lung cancer have a history of smoking tobacco.

Overall, the development of lung cancer can involve various factors, not just cigarette smoking.

There are women who decide not to undergo pap spear because it is an uncomfortable procedure, not aware of the crucial role it has in the fight against cervical cancer. Pap smear is an invasive screening procedure that involves taking cells sample from the cervix and testing it for changes or mutations (precancerous stage) that can later develop into maligancy.

What makes cervical cancer hard to detect is because it doesn't show any sign and symptom during it's precancerous stage. Therefore, by the time a girl feels something is wrong, usually the abnormal changes in the lining of the cervix has already became cancerous.

What is more, cervical cancer is a disease that is gradual in onset which usually takes 1 to 2 decades, thus allowing considerable amount of time to catch it before it gets out of control and spread (metastisize) to other organs of the body.

Taking this into consideration, this makes pap smear a valuable tool in early detection and treatment. It is imperative to catch cervical cancer while it is still on it's precancerous stage since at this point, it's easier to prevent it from advancing to cervical cancer.

When should you have pap smear?

According to the NHS of United Kingdom, women ages 25 to 64 years old are recommended to undergo pap smear test. Screening test should be done once every 3 years for individuals below 50 years of age and every 5 years thereafter.

Does paraben increases the risk of breast cancer? | Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | health blog

Paraben, a common additive found in beauty and personal care products, has been associated with an increased risk of development of breast cancer, despite this, it continues to be in widespread usage.

Breast cancer is one of the leading cause of deaths across the globe. In fact, it's prevalence is alarmingly notorious among women, along side skin cancer.

Did you know that our body can easily absorb paraben even through an intact skin. This preservative can leach into the blood and be detectable in the urine of those who are exposed to it. Furthermore, samples from amniotic fluid revealed that this chemical can even seep into the unborn child.

How paraben works is that it disrupts the hormone balance in the body as it closely resembles the property of estrogen which in turn enhances the growth of cancer cells. Despite the fact that paraben is a languid estrogen copycat, laboratory studies shows that it still exerts the ability to hasten the growth of tumor.

There are several types of parabens which includes butylparaben and methylparaben.

Even with the presence of studies pointing out the detrimental effect of paraben on a person's health, companies still continues to include it in various items common folks use in their everyday life because of it's practical and cost effective purpose which is to increase the manufactured items' shelf life.

In  addition,  paraben isn't just present in the things a woman commonly apply on her face or skin, but it can be among the ingredients found in processed foods and medications.

Taking these information into consideration, it is the duty of a well-informed consumer to make the right choice. To avoid the health repercussions involved with using paraben containing products, opt for paraben free cosmetic and beauty products instead. Shift to all-natural beauty and cosmetic brand. Make sure you read a products label and skim over it's ingredients.

Does Alkaline Water Treatment effectively Cures Cancer | Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | health blog

The notion that drinking alkaline water efficiently kills cancer lies in the fact that cancer cells do not thrive in an alkaline environment. However, there is no scientific evidence that backs up this claim.

The effectiveness of alkaline water as an alternative natural treatment for cancer remains shrouded in controversy. While cancer cell can not thrive in a environment with high levels of alkalinity, so is the human body.

The normal blood pH level, which ranges from 7.35 - 7.45, is in fact alkaline. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, in which 7 is considered the neutral pH. pH level above 7 is alkaline, while ranges below 7 is acidic.

When blood pH level increase in alkalinity in which it's range exceeds 7.45, disruptions in the bodily processes occurs which can manifest as symptoms that includes nausea, vomiting, dizziness, muscle spasm, confusion, difficulty of breathing, and can progress to coma and even death.

What is alkaline water?

Unlike normal water which has a neutral pH, alkaline water has a pH range of 8 to 9. Even so, since the human body has an internal mechanism of keeping blood pH level within normal range, under normal condition, drinking alkaline water does not affect the pH of the blood.

You have to understand that keeping the blood pH level within normal range is critical to survival. Any deviation from the normal range can prove disruptive and deadly.

In conclusion, if you'd like to purchase alkaline water, it's relatively safe to drink, but not a proven effective treatment to heal cancer.

Eating Shrimp / Prawn with Vitamin C can Kill via Arsenic poisoning: Fake or Real?

Eating Shrimp / Prawn with Vitamin C can Kill via Arsenic poisoning: Fake or Real?

I've just received a message on my social media account claiming that Vitamin C should not be taken with too much shrimp or prawn since it can lead to arsenic poisoning which can kill a person overnight. I was concerned because Vitamin C is supposed to be healthy and shrimps don't sound deadly, unless you're allergic to it.

Shrimp and Vitamin C duo. Does this sound like the kind of combo that kills?

So, I did some research. Lo and behold it's fake health news!

Is there arsenic in shrimp or prawn?

Yes there is,

Seafoods contain a form of arsenic called arsenobetaine, however, this should not be a cause of alarm, since it is considered as non-toxic to humans.

Humans are not able to metabolize arsenobetine so we eliminate it from out body as it is.

How about if Shrimp is taken with Vitamin C?

The only facts we can gather regarding this matter is a study done in 1985 by the University of Illinois claiming that when large dose of Vitamin C is combined with shrimp or prawn, it's harmless content "pentavalent" compound transforms into highly toxic trivalent arsenic.

And even with that finding, they did not associate taking large dose of Vitamin C and seafood with sudden death. In fact, they associate taking mega dose Vitamin C and too much shrimp with an increased risk of developing cancer.

Since 1985, we are left hanging with Baker's words. "We now must wonder whether megadosing with vitamin C increases the risk of cancer by changing the form of arsenic in food."

Can megadose of vitamin c combined with lots of seafood intake cause cancer?

Now, the revelation of this 1985 research, although a very long time ago, is not a reassuring one. Although it doesn't say anywhere in this research that high doses of Vitamin C combined with seafood intake can be fatal overnight, it does raises a serious concern: Can mega doses of Vitamin C coupled with high amount of seafood intake cause cancer?

Unfortunately, further research is still needed to shed light in this topic.

The use of arsenic and vitamin c in cancer treatment

Arsenic is a toxic substance, but surprisingly, it is used for it's medicinal property for over 2 millennia.

Arsenic trioxide, it's highly toxic form, is used in leukemia treatment for it's ability to induce cancer cells to self destruct.

Studies shows that adding vitamin c to arsenic trioxide in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia potentiates it's cell destructive effect.

Several research has also tackled the efficacy of taking mega doses of vitamin c in conjunction to conventional cancer treatment.

Signs and symptoms of arsenic poisoning

Symptoms of acute arsenic poisoning includes:

headache
confusion
dizziness
decrease in level of consciousness
diarrhea
nausea
vomiting
abdominal pain
hemolysis of red blood cells

Arsenic poisoning can ultimately lead to seizure, shock, coma, and death.

Chronic exposure to arsenic can lead to the development of cancer, liver problems, and kidney problems.

Noticeable signs of chronic arsenic exposure includes changes in the color of the skin, formation of hard bumps on the palm of the hands and soles of the feet , and appearance of whitish Mee's lines in the fingernails.

The circulating health news about eating too much shrimp or prawn combined with daily Vitamin C intake supposedly lethal overnight is an exaggeration that is meant to scare people.

When is there a real risk of arsenic poisoning?

Arsenic is a naturally occurring toxin that can be found in the soil, rocks, and water in certain geographic locations. Arsenic poisoning is most commonly caused by drinking contaminated unfiltered water.

Arsenic can be an ingredient in pesticide, thus increasing the risk of agricultural workers. People involved in mining work are also at higher risk of arsenic poisoning.

Not all information circulating online are true.

The hoax health advice has been circulating in the internet courtesy of people who don't verify facts before sharing to their love ones. Here's a copy of the message:

A woman suddenly died unexpectedly with signs of bleeding from her ears, nose, mouth & eyes. After a preliminary autopsy it was diagnosed that death was due to arsenic poisoning. Where did the arsenic come from? The police launched an in-depth and extensive investigation. A medical school professor was invited to come to solve the case. The professor carefully looked at the contents. In less than half an hour, the mystery was solved. The professor said: 'The deceased did not commit suicide and neither was she murdered, she died of accidental death due to ignorance!' Everyone was puzzled, why accidental death?

The professor said: 'The arsenic was produced in the stomach of the deceased.' The deceased used to take 'Vitamin C' everyday, which in itself is not a problem. The problem was that she ate a large portion of shrimp/prawn during dinner. Eating shrimp/prawn is not the problem that's why nothing happened to her family even though they had the same shrimp/prawn.

However at the same time the decease also took 'vitamin C', that is where the problem was! Researchers at the University of Chicago in the United States , found through experiments, food such as soft-shell contain much higher concentration of five potassium arsenic compounds. Such fresh food by itself has no toxic effects on the human body. However, in taking 'vitamin C', chemical reaction occurs and the original non-toxic elements change to toxic elements.

Arsenic poisoning has magma role and can cause paralysis to the small blood vessels. Therefore, a person who dies of arsenic poisoning will show signs of bleeding from the ears, nose, mouth & eyes. Thus as a precautionary measure,

DO NOT eat shrimp/prawn when taking 'vitamin C'. After reading this; please do not be stingy. It's our duty to take care of our friends.

Breast Cancer risk Increased by Light Exposure at Night

Breast Cancer risk Increased by Light Exposure at Night

Many of us can be guilty of using our mobile phone or computer at bedtime, yet this action increases our risk of getting breast cancer.

Breast Cancer risk Increased by Light Exposure at Night
Breast Cancer risk Increased by Light Exposure at Night

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan

This research finding raises concern considering breast cancer is the most frequent form of cancer that affects and kills women.

Normally, when it is bedtime, our brain releases a hormone called "melatonin" that has an anti-cancer effect. Normally, we produce more of this hormone while we are sleeping.

When we are expose to light at night, it messes up with the melatonin secretion causing it's level to decrease.

Phones and computers are not the only culprit of exposure to light at night, even artificial lights such as LED light and television are offenders.

A sound sleep really helps cut down breast cancer risk, however it remains a challenge.

Working the night-shift is also a contributing factor for the development of invasive breast cancer because it messes up the body's internal biological clock.

Don't underestimate the role of sleep in our well-being. As we age, a sound good night's sleep really does play a crucial role in keeping us healthy and energized.

If you or a person you know is at increase risk of developing cancer (possibly due to family history), please share this health fact.
